Dornfelder is a German Grape developed from a cross between Helfensteiner and Herolorebe, both from the species vitis vinifera.  One of the most successful modern crossings, Dornfelder yields deeply colored juice and produces a sultry purply garnet colored wine having fresh acidity and a velvety texture with flavors of exotic spice, berries, and a violet-y florality.

Dornfelder pairs well with dry Salamis, hams, grilled fresh sausages, chicken, rabbit, and soft-ripened Cows milk cheeses and herbed goat cheese.
